Ridley Scott's NAPOLEON feels just like the highlight reel of a long miniseries.
Considering there's a 4-hour cut of this film, that clarifies it all.
NAPOLEON is surely a decent display. The battle scenes are incredible. Tragically, it's likewise shallow. I realize Scott has jeered at watchers censuring the verifiable errors in the film.
Yet, I'm more irritated by a complete absence of fascinating person-brain research or even reasonable narrating. Characters pop in and out, having little impression in their short scenes. For example, the relationship between Napoleon and Josephine is barely fleshed out, which dominates the running time. Likewise, a possibly disliked assessment, I thought Joaquin Phoenix's presentation was a one-note bore.
The 4-hour form may be a more extravagant piece of work. which had all the show and mental profundity this film needed.
